Broken Link Checker.
Enter a single page URL to scan for broken links (e.g., 404 errors). The tool will check all links it finds on that page and report their status. This process uses background jobs, so results may take a few moments to appear.
Broken Link Checker FAQs
Broken links (links leading to pages that don't exist, often showing a '404 Not Found' error) are bad for several reasons. They create a frustrating experience for your users, potentially causing them to leave your site. For SEO, search engines may see a site with many broken links as poorly maintained, which can negatively impact your crawl budget and potentially rankings. They also break the flow of 'link equity' through your site.
When you enter a URL, this tool fetches the content of that page, extracts all the links (both internal to your site and external to other sites), and then individually checks the status of each of those links. Because checking many links can take time, it uses a queue system to process them in the background. The results will update as links are checked.
Internal links point to other pages within your own website (e.g., a link from your homepage to your 'About Us' page). External links point to pages on other websites (e.g., a link to a news article on another site). Both types are important to check.
A 'Connection Timeout' means the tool couldn't reach the server hosting the linked page within a reasonable time. This could be a temporary issue with that server or a network problem. Other 'Error' messages can indicate various issues like invalid SSL certificates or DNS problems. It's good to re-check these links manually or at a later time.
Currently, this tool is designed to scan links found on a single starting URL that you provide. It does not recursively crawl your entire website. For full website crawls, more specialized SEO tools or desktop software are typically used.
